Afterword updates itself, so you always have the newest version. Here's what changed in each one.
1.1.0
Oct 23, 2026
Battery saver during calls: on battery at 20%, the extras that use the most power stop for the rest of the call (more accurate transcripts, telling voices apart, live translation) and transcription carries on. At 8%, the call so far is saved right away. Plugging in turns it off. Settings › Calls
A new battery heads-up: the battery drains, warns and refills as you plug in, with the minutes left counting down
Lighter during calls: the live transcript only rebuilds when something new is said (in-call CPU 16.7% → 14.0% of one core in our test; silent stretches use far less)
Afterword has its own home: getafterword.me. Links, emails and updates use it (the old address keeps working)
Little confirmations ("Moment marked", "Moved to the Trash") get a matching icon
1.0.39
Oct 22, 2026
Uses much less battery between calls: Afterword no longer wakes up 30 times a second while idle (about five times less CPU in our measurement)
The mini window stays still between calls instead of animating all day
Finding which app is on a call is cheaper, which also saves battery
1.0.38
Oct 22, 2026
Fixed: on the new Microsoft Teams app, the other people could be missing or only half-heard, because Teams plays calls through helper processes Afterword wasn't listening to. Afterword now listens to the whole app, helpers included (Zoom, Slack and browsers too)
During a call, Afterword checks itself: if the meeting app sends no sound while your mic hears talking, it reconnects, and if that doesn't help, it tells you how to fix the macOS permission
If a note comes out broken (the other side mostly missing), the panel offers to send a report in one click: what Afterword did on the call, never what anyone said
Afterword keeps a small diagnostics log on your Mac, with no audio and no transcript text, sent only if you choose
1.0.37
Oct 22, 2026
More accurate transcripts works again in Spanish, French, German and 21 other European languages, with NVIDIA's multilingual model told which language to expect (English keeps its own model). If the setting is on, the model for your language downloads by itself, once
A Done button (⌘D) under the note after a call takes you back to the start screen
A busy Mac can no longer make Afterword mistake a short delay in the call's audio for silence
1.0.36
Oct 22, 2026
Summaries no longer add details nobody said: 'Monday' stays Monday instead of becoming a made-up date, and a line with a number from nowhere is left out
Fixed: if reconnecting to the meeting app's audio failed once (switching to AirPods, say), Afterword kept trying instead of giving up for the rest of the call
⌘⌫ deletes text as usual while you edit a line or search; it only moves the note to the Trash otherwise
1.0.35
Oct 22, 2026
Right-click a transcript line to copy it with who said it and when
⌘F jumps to Find in transcript; ⌘⌫ moves the note to the Trash
Settings lists languages by name and marks the ones Apple hears through dictation as (basic)
When you press Record before a call and Teams or Zoom joins, the panel says it's listening to them too
Moving a note to the Trash confirms it
A word or two at the end of a sentence no longer gets split off to a different speaker
afterword://pause, afterword://mark and afterword://forget links, for Shortcuts and Raycast
1.0.34
Oct 22, 2026
Fixed: on a busy call, a speaker who talked for a while without pausing could make Afterword restart its speech engine mid-sentence; changing words now count as progress
Fixed: a call starting while the last note was still being written (back-to-back meetings) could mix the two notes; each note now keeps its own call
Fixed: after a pause, 'Forget the last 30 seconds', marked moments and speaker names pointed at the wrong time
Fixed: a long pause or mute could use a lot of memory when sound came back
Fixed: the first call in a new language could have every timestamp late by the download time
Fixed: naming speakers after a call removed the link to the kept audio
Afterword never listens to your Mac's other sound: only the meeting app, and only your mic in a room
A muted call no longer risks being split into several notes
The quick follow-up email (⌘E) is written in the call's language
A license check that fails once no longer signs you out; it has to fail again 12 hours later
The more accurate model isn't loaded when your calls aren't in English, saving memory
1.0.33
Oct 22, 2026
Fixed: the other side of a call could go missing on a busy Mac (for example a Teams call in Spanish). When a speech engine fell behind, Afterword replaced it and lost the words it hadn't returned yet; now it waits longer and keeps every word
Fixed: pressing Record before the call connected recorded only your side; Afterword now starts listening to the meeting app as soon as it joins, including Meet and Teams in a browser
If a meeting app's own audio stays silent in a call, Afterword listens to all the Mac's sound instead
Move a note to the Trash from the note window or right after a call (its kept audio goes too)
Cleaned-up lines no longer start with 'Me:' or 'They:'
afterword://record and afterword://stop links, for Shortcuts and Raycast
1.0.32
Oct 22, 2026
Dutch, Polish, Russian, Swedish, Turkish and about 20 more languages now record, using Apple's dictation engine (before, a Mac set to one of them couldn't record)
Notes, follow-up emails and Ask answers come out in the call's language (Dutch and Japanese calls were getting English notes)
Portuguese 'um' and German or Dutch 'er' are no longer removed as filler sounds
Chinese and Japanese action items and decisions are no longer dropped
In a language Apple Intelligence can't write yet, the note says so and how to get summaries with a local model
Fixed: languages could stop working after you'd used five
Back-to-back calls are no longer split mid-call; it could miss the start of the next meeting
Follow-up emails greet people in the call's language
Duplicate action items in a different word order are merged
1.0.31
Oct 21, 2026
Fixed: on non-English calls, the other side could vanish from the transcript partway through
Summaries are now written in your transcription language
More accurate transcripts is now English-only; other languages use Apple's live transcription, which hears them better
Long calls keep their real timestamps through silences
Tick action items in a note; the file saves them as done
Edit or remove any transcript line (right-click it)
Back-to-back meetings get separate notes, split by your calendar
Record now works in person: it uses only your mic
Join your next meeting from the Up next card
Your last note and recent notes in the panel between calls
No empty note when Zoom opens before a meeting
Decisions no longer repeat the summary
1.0.30
Oct 21, 2026
Ask your meetings: type a question in search (⌘F) and get a short answer from your notes, with the calls it came from. On your Mac
Keep the audio (Settings › Notes): click any time in a note to hear that moment. Anything you forget during a call is silenced, and audio is deleted after 30 days
Templates: write your own note format and use it on any note, or after every call
Follow-up: one click drafts the email from a note, ready to edit and send
Brief me: with Calendar on, see your next meeting and what happened last time
1.0.28
Oct 20, 2026
Long calls always get a summary now: if Apple's safety filter objects to part of a call (like swearing in a side conversation), only that small part is skipped instead of the whole summary
Your mic is left out while Zoom shows you muted, even while someone is sharing their screen
Names stay on the right lines during screen sharing, using Zoom's participant list
Cleaner action items, without half-sentence fragments
Follow-up emails can end with a small Notes by Afterword line (Settings), and Settings › Account has Tell a friend
1.0.27

Membership keys now follow the subscription, so changing or cancelling is handled automatically
1.0.20

1.0.19
Oct 20, 2026
