Zoom · Meet · Teams · on your Mac
Meeting notes, without a bot in the call.
Nobody sees a notetaker join. Afterword sits in your Mac's menu bar, listens to the call from your own audio, and writes the summary, decisions and to-dos when it ends. The audio and the transcript never leave your Mac.
Why people hate the bot.
A bot that joins as a participant changes the room. Clients ask who it is, some hosts remove it, and some companies block it outright. It also means your call is being recorded on someone else's server.
Afterword doesn't join anything. It captures the call the same way your headphones hear it: from your Mac's own audio, both your mic and the other side. There's no extra name in the participant list and nothing to let in.
How it works.
- A call starts in Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams. Afterword notices and starts recording by itself.
- It transcribes on your Mac with Apple's on-device speech models. No upload, and it still works on bad Wi-Fi.
- The call ends and a markdown note lands in the folder you picked: summary, decisions, action items and the full transcript. It works with Obsidian, Notion imports or any editor.
Tell people you're taking notes.
No bot means nobody gets an automatic notice, so it's on you. Recording laws differ by place, and some require everyone's consent. A quick "I'm taking notes with an app, OK?" at the start covers it.
Questions.
Yes. Afterword records from your Mac's own audio (your mic and the call's sound), so nothing joins Zoom, Meet or Teams as a participant.
Yes, all three, in the desktop apps or in the browser. Recording starts by itself when a call begins.
No. Transcription runs on your Mac with Apple's on-device speech models, and summaries use Apple Intelligence or a local model you run in Ollama or LM Studio.
Not from Afterword, since nothing joins the call. Tell them yourself; in some places the law requires everyone's consent to record.
